Teaching Procedures
Step Ⅰ. Greeting
Greet the whole class as usual.
Step Ⅱ. Revision
1.Check the homework exercises.
2.Ask the Ss one question.
In the dialogue of Lesson 13. What newspaper were Betty and Zhou Lan looking at? -China Daily.
Step Ⅲ. Presentation and Discussion
1.T:Today we’re going to find out how a newspaper is made. But first we’ll have a short discussion.
2.Teacher reads the instructions and questions aloud. Then divide the Ss into groups of four. Demonstrate with a good group so that the rest of the Ss know what to do. After practising teacher asks one group to report their answers to the rest of the class.
Step Ⅳ. Reading
1.Give the Ss five minutes to ask them to read the story as quickly as possible. Find the answers to the questions at the top of the text.
Suggested Answers:
An editor tells the journalists what they are going to write about, and decides which will be the most important story.
A journalist interviews people, writes a report and checks information.
2.Let the Ss read the text again, then answer some detailed questions in the text.
3.Show the following questions on the screen to check their comprehension. Ask the Ss to answer.
(1) What does the newspaper chief editor do every morning? Why?
(2)What kind of people should the journalists be?
(3)What do photographers and picture editors do?
(4)Why is writing headlines in English more difficult than in Chinese?
(5)Why must all the people who work on a newspaper work quickly?
4.Check the answer with the whole class. And deal with the following. Write them on the blackboard, and show the example on the screen.

Step Ⅴ. Listening and Activity
1.Play the tape and this time let the Ss follow.
2.Deal with Part 3. First read the instructions aloud to the Ss and make sure that they understand what to do. Then let the Ss work in pairs or small groups. At the end check the answers with the whole class.
