(1) Sunday today. Windy and a little dusty, because North China has a dry weather in the fall. More leaves, saying farewell to their mother trees, are dancing in the air,and then spiraling down to the earth, when a wind blows. This morning i rode my shabby and old-fasioned bike to come to school, and really felt a bit cold. Every day the street i ride through is lined with high local type trees on one side and lilac trees on the other side. When in spring and summer, the street has plenty of greenness and fragrance. But this morning leaves were falling down upon my head and down to the cement paved street. Winter is coming soon.
(2) Every other sunday i work overtime in the morning, giving 4 lessons and covering one self-study lesson. We reviewed attributive clauses by doing a lot of relevant exercises. Students made me feel better today because they were making some progress, not much, but better than nothing. I have a habit that in my class i don't only ask some regular so-called good students to answer my questions. I try to treat each student equally. So i prefer to call each of them in the order of lines or columns. Even one student is very poor in English, I won't neglet him or her when his or her turn comes. I help to answer! Yes, this requires some more time and could stretch longer my teaching. But i don't mind. All i want to do is let my students take an active part in English study.
(3) After lunch, watched TV for about one hour and then had a long "nap".
(4) Somtimes think about english grammar in our teaching. What hell role should it play? There is a tendency that teaching grammar is given less emphasis now. Good! i agree! But i am trying to say is that we can't cancel it during the language study. We Chinese are "learning" English. Here i stress the word
" learning", by which i mean we are not doing English in an english speaking country. We are in China, where english is our second language. If you are picking up english in USA or UK or whichever english speaking country, you are "acquiring" english as the second language acquisition, then grammar is not that important. Here is the difference which suggests that we need grammar in our teaching, probably not much like what we used to do, but definitely we do need it. And another reason why we can't kick off grammar is that we are learning english for the NMET-oriented purpose.
(5) A birthday dinner! Happy birthday to my family member!
