This morning I rose at 5:40 and went out to buy “Dou Jiang”, a kind of drink made from beans(which were dipped in water for the whole night) ground together with water.
It was a little foggy outside. The whole living quarter was immersed in the fog, mixed with the scent of the grass as well as some autumn-adaptive flowers. On the central square were some community residents doing morning exercises, and most were old people, including men and women. They know better how important health is!
The morning market was not far from the home. Many food stands were arranged along the two sides of the street.
The “Dou Jang” was pulverized, along with a big cup of water, by a electricity-driven grinder. And the seller used a plastic bag to receive “Dou Jiang”, and then gave to me. Back home, we boiled it and had it.
“Dou Jiang” is a healthy drink, which is popular in North China, especially for breakfast. When I was in Senior Three of Zibo No.6 Middle School, I liked to drink it. I had two good roommates. We always went out of the school gate in the early morning to buy one flask of it and shared it. Certainly it was already boiled.
Time fleets! 20 years has passed.
Now the two best friends are working in Zhoucun. They both have a happy family.
Do they still drink “Dou Jiang” at breakfast?
Are they always recalling this kind of delicious drink?
I do! And I am!
